Simple comparison between the way state presidents were received in Algeria including French President François Hollande and the way Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan was welcomed shows a big difference.

Official institutions did not talk about Erdogan’s visit until he arrived to Algeria on Tuesday from Morocco.

Algeria news agency APS unusually did not talk about the visit until the eve of the prime minister’s arrival.

The agency publishes many reports about recent protests against Erdogan in some Turkish cities.

The first official communiqué from the Algerian prime ministry about the visit was not issued until Monday’s night.

Although Erdogan was accompanied by an important delegation including ministers and businessmen, no importance was given to the visit.

Earlier in December 2012, French President Hollande who visited Algeria was honored by thousands of Algerians in Algiers to welcome him. He delivered a speech in Palais des Nations in front of members of Parliament.

According to observers, Erdogan’s visit was preceded by signs that some internal and external parties wanted to spoil relations between Algiers and Ankara. Armenian minister of diaspora Hranush Hakobyan’s visit to Algeria last week was part of “attempts to spoil” Erdogan’s visits due to relations sensitivity between Turkey and Armenia.
