EU Election Monitors Arrives in Algeria to Discuss with Government, Opposition

The first bunch of EU election monitors has arrived Tuesday to Algiers International Airport ahead of assessing Algeria authorities’ ongoing preparations for the upcoming parliamentary election.

Official sources at the Foreign Ministry told Echorouk reporter Samira Belamri that the EU delegation is composed of six members, including three observers and three senior officials at the EU.
The European monitors will hold meetings and discussions with Algerian top officials, including Foreign Minister, Mourad Medelci, Minister of Interior, Dahou Ould Kablia, Minister of Justice Taib Belaiz and Minister of Information, Nacer Mhel.
However, the Head of EU Delegation in Algeria Laura Baeza Giralt is yet to settle a specific agenda for the EU mission as to meet figures from the opposition and the civil society.
Other monitors from the Arab League, the African Union, the United Nations and the Islamic Conference are to come in the coming days, to the North African nation.
