European blockade on Algeria to force it to review gas prices

European partners of Algeria in the field of natural gas are moving to impose their own logic on Sonatrach and review gas prices that are concluded currently under long-term contracts, which has long insisted by Sonatrach and faced rejection by European partners, as European demands emerged, especially from Italy and Spain to check the prices of Algerian gas.

In this context, the General Manager of Sonatrach, Abdelmadjd Zerguine, met with the Executive Director of the Italian energy giant “Eni” at the Russian city of St. Petersburg on the sidelines of an international economic forum that was held over the weekend.

According to the leaks for “Echorouk”, the Executive Director of “Eni” Paolo Scaroni told the Algerian side that he desires to review gas prices for reduction in the future, due to the drop in energy demand in Italy, in the light of the economic crisis that hit the fourth economy in the European Union.

Terrible discrecy from the national oil company Sonatrach characterized the content of the meeting between the President and Director General of the company and the Executive Director of Eni, Paolo Scaroni, as Sonatrach did not refer at all to this meeting, nor to what happened between the two officials.

Echorouk contacted the media cell of Sonatrach, which assured that it does not have an idea about what was discussed between Zarkan and Scaroni in Russia.
