Various International Evangelization Organizations led by the World’s Evangelists Coalition, launched a fierce campaign against the Algerian authorities, following the indictment of four Christians including a French priest for Evangelization activities; violating thus the law governing religious practices.
The Swiss Evangelist Coalition, last February sent a letter to the Algerian embassy in Bern, condemning what they believe an unfair treatment against the Christian community in Algeria. The letter was published by the local press the day before yesterday.
The Swiss organization secretary general, made reference to the three Christians convicted in absentia for three years imprisonment by the court of Oran and Tiaret (western Algeria). The secretary general seized the opportunity to slash at the law governing the religious practices for non Muslim communities issued on March 2006. In the letter sent to the Algerian ambassador to Switzerland, the Geneva- based Evangelist organization, called on the Algerian president Abdelaziz Bouteflika to nullify the sentence referring to the International Human Rights Charter promulgated in 1948 , more specifically chapter 18 which guarantees freedom of cult.
Further details could not be provided on the matter as all attempts to get in touch with the Algerian ambassador or the embassy’s first secretary were fruitless. The Swiss Evangelists Coalition comprises seven associations including “The open doors”, “The American Association” and “The International Christian solidarity”.
These associations are financed by major American churches as well as the US Secretary of state. This international coalition is supervising some 104 evangelization associations over the world, and is pressuring hard to raise the case in the UN Human Rights council in Geneva.
