Expelled from the Airport, a Harki lodges a complaint with the United Nations against Algeria
An Algerian national suspected of being a “Harki” has decided to file legal proceedings against the Algerian government at the United Nations after being prevented by border police from visiting his birth region in the eastern part of Algeria.
- This Algerian national called Maâmar Sebti was intercepted at Annaba airport and forcibly expelled towards France after the confiscation of his Algerian passport.
- This affair dates back to May 22nd 2011 when the PAF Police of Annaba airport prevented Maâmar Sebti who was accompanied by his wife namely Naziha Belarbi from leaving Annaba airport upon their arrival from France.
- According to the local French news website, “Paris Normandie”, the PAF Police compelled them to buy 2 plane tickets and to return forthwith to France.
- “We were treated with violence and little humanity”, Naziha Belarbi sadly told the French news website.
- Back home in France, Maâmar Sebti went to the Algerian Consulate of his region where he was told that he is accused of having collaborated with France during the colonial period in Algeria, an accusation he refuted categorically as untrue and groundless.
- As a result, Maâmar Sebti swiftly got in touch with a Rouen-based lawyer of Algerian origin Akli Ait Taleb and entrusted him with lodging a formal complaint against the Algerian authorities with the United Nations’ commission of refugees in a bid to retrieve his “flouted rights”, as he put it.
