Family of electrocuted student to sue the responsible for his death

Five days passed after the tragic death of Amine, who was electrocuted inside the university amphitheatre when 380 volt electricity current ran through his body, people are still flocking to the family’s house to extend their condolences.

• Amine’s cousin, who is also a student at the University of Houari Boumedienne, Algiers, related to Echourouk’s reporter the tragic story of the death of Amine and how he was lethally electrocuted.

• “ We were about to start a course in physics and electronics at the laboratory and three students alongside two teachers were preparing for an experiment… Not noticing that the current wasn’t cut off, the three students wanted to retry the experiment but Amine, whose body was part of the current circuit, was electrocuted”, his cousin declared.

• His cousin went on saying that the ambulance arrived 20 minutes after the tragic event while the security agents were not reachable because their Walki-Talkies were out of order, according to the students.

• Meanwhile, some students have asserted that the one of the teachers gave water to Amine while lying unconscious accelerating thus his death since the current was still running in his body, but other have vehemently denied this allegation contending that Physics teachers are aware that water was lethal in those circumstances and would never commit this mistake.

• Forensic investigators have a started an inquiry with all the parties involved in the case including the teachers and the students with the aim to shed light on the reasons behind the death of Amine and more importantly to see whether the late students drank water after being electrocuted or not.

• In a declaration to Echourouk, Amine’s brother has asserted that his family will file a suit against the ministry and those responsible for the death of his brother so as to prevent that other students die in the same circumstances in the future.

• “ Of course I will sue the responsible for the death of my son, how can that my son went to the university to acquire knowledge and comes back scorched by electricity”, the father added.
