Fayez al-Sarraj Asks Algeria For Help
Fayez el-Sarraj, Chairman of the Presidential Council of the Libyan Accord Government, called upon Algeria and other countries on Friday to repel the attacks of the forces of the Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar over Tripoli.
“The chairman of the Presidential Council of the National Accord Government, Mr Fayez el-Sarraj, sent on Thursday letters to the heads of five countries: the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Italy, Algeria and Turkey”, a government statement said.
He explained that the messages included “a request from these friendly countries to activate the security cooperation agreements, and build upon them to repel the attack against the Libyan capital, Tripoli, from any armed groups that are operating outside the legitimacy of the state to preserve social peace and to achieve stability in Libya.”
“The messages also included the invitation of the five countries to cooperate and coordinate with the Government of National Accord in combating terrorist organizations, including ISIS and al-Qaeda, for whom the attack has created an appropriate opportunity and climate to return to Libya, where their activity has increased since it occurred.”
Chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council called for “intensifying cooperation in facing illegal immigration and combating organized crime and trafficking in human beings.”
