FIFA's official: I'll send a good report to Blatter
Emanuel Maradas

FIFA’s communication representative and the World Cup Tour’s spokesman in Africa, the Chadian Emanuel Maradas has declared that he will forward good news to the president Joseph Blatter after the hearty welcome reserved to the World Trophy in Algeria.

  • Giving an interview to “Echourok” inside special flight that carried the World Trophy from Tunis to Algeria, he raised several issues in relation to the World Cup Trophy, his relationship with the Algerian Football Association’s president Mohammed Raouraoua and the privilege given by the FIFA to Echourok to host the World Cup Trophy.
  • Q: What’s the aim of the World Cup Trophy’s Tour around Africa?
  • A: Since 2006, FIFA has decided to introduce the World Trophy to the large public in some countries. Before the German World Cup, the trophy toured in 29 countries and it was a total success that’s why we decided to renew the experience before each World Cup competition.
  • Q: Why did you choose to visit all the African countries?
  • A: Since the black continent will play host for the World Cup for the first time ever, we have decided that the trophy will visit all the countries. We are aware that easy people can travel to South Africa to follow the matches on spot, but the great majority of Africans cannot afford it that’s why FIFA has decided to visit them instead.
  • Q: What’s the secret behind the partnership between Coca Cola and the World Cup Trophy’s Tour?
  • A: Coca Cola is FIFA’s partner since 30 years and this form has always sustained football around the world, that’s why we believe that this firm deserves this honor.
  • Q: In addition to Coca Cola, FIFA has chosen “Echourok” to host the trophy, why especially this newspaper?
  • A: We had to make a huge media uproar for the visit of the World trophy to Algeria, that‘s why we have chosen “Echourok” which is considered as the best print media in the country with more than 800 copies a day.
  • Q: Everybody’s focus is shifted to the combined World Cup and African Cup of Nations qualifiers; do you think that Algeria is able to win its ticket to the World Cup for the third time?
  • A:  Algeria is taking the lead in its group and its chances for the qualification to the World Cup are great, but beware of pretentiousness because football is not a science that’s why one has to play to the last moment.
  • Q: How do FIFA’s officers look at Algeria?
  • A: It’s enough that Algeria played a major role in changing FIFA’s rules in 1982 as teams are forced to play at the same moment. It was a breakthrough and FIFA’s officers still have in mind your country for this.
  • Q: You have mentioned earlier the name of Mohammed Raouraoua, how do you qualify his role inside FIFA?
  • A: Raouraoua is my friend, and is a great man whose contribution to the Africans is huge. He’s got all the requirements that enable him to lead the Algerian football to a safe place. His role in the African Confederation established him as one of the most influential figures in FIFA.
  • Q: Some expressed worries about the security side during the World Cup in South Africa, are there any guarantees from this country?
  • A: South Africa has given all the guarantees to make of this event a total success, Mandela’s nation is ready to take on the challenge.
