Final Car Import Licenses To Be Granted To Accredited Dealerships

Final car licenses are expected to be granted to accredited car dealerships who have benefited from temporary licenses to import vehicles, which are 7 car dealerships up to the hour, within a maximum deadline of one month from the date of filing the final files, while the technical committee in charge of studying files calls on the dealerships to bring final contracts from the supplier factories and not just initial contracts as it was also the case when the temporary licenses were granted.

According to what was confirmed by a source familiar with the file, these procedures come even though the temporary license remains valid for use for a period of up to one year from the date of its receipt, bearing in mind that the 7 leaderships who obtained licenses are obliged to bring final contracts from the factories supplied abroad, stating the supply of vehicles conforming to what is stipulated in the conditions book governing the activity.

Sources from the industry sector confirmed that the technical committee in charge of granting approvals is obliged to distribute the final licenses within a maximum period of one month from the date of filing the file following the stipulations of the book of conditions, explaining that the initial licenses do not allow the activity to be carried out under the executive decree of the book of conditions, but only by registration with the commercial register, and after that, the dealerships must file a final approval request, which passes to the committee again to be subject to study, and the granting of the final approvals requires a field visit to make sure that the areas required in the conditions book are available, and also the equipment is in compliance with what is stipulated in the book of conditions.

Echorouk source says that granting the final licenses will be more stringent, especially since the initial licenses do not require the applicant to file anything but prove the existence of the company’s basic law and a temporary contract with the factory, and despite this, a large number of files were rejected while obtaining the final license requires bringing final contract with the factory conforming to the conditions, instead of being satisfied with an initial contract and fulfilling all the conditions, including exclusive, after-sales services and training, available solutions in case of disputes, and the terms of contract termination.

The Industry Minister, Ferhat Ait Ali, commented for the first time on the issue of when the first car would enter Algeria a week ago, after granting licenses to import cars to several agents, confirming that determining the date of entry of imported cars into Algeria does not fall within the powers of his ministry’s sector, adding that only car dealerships set the date after granting them accreditation.

Two days ago, the Industry Ministry announced the granting of 3 new temporary licenses to car import dealerships in a manner that raises the total number of licenses distributed to 7 licenses, and for its part, the technical committee in charge of studying the files related to the practice of vehicle manufacturing activity by broadcasting in two new files, bringing the total number to 3 files out of the 18 that were deposited at the ministry level, as these files relate to the manufacture of tourist and utility vehicles.
