The Renewable Energy Development Centre has launched a national laboratory specialising in the performance and efficiency of grid-connected photovoltaic inverters, in accordance with internationally recognised standards.

The laboratory has been officially commissioned, marking, according to observers, an unprecedented step towards Algeria’s transition from promoting solar energy to scientifically and technically regulating its application. This will ensure the production of solar electricity without fluctuations or interruptions.

In this context, a document from the Renewable Energy Development Centre, published on Saturday and reviewed by Echorouk newspaper, stated that a performance and efficiency testing laboratory for grid-connected photovoltaic inverters has been commissioned at the photovoltaic technology platform within the INV-PV laboratory. This is a first-of-its-kind initiative nationally in terms of the nature, accuracy, and scientific rigour of the tests.

According to the same document, this laboratory will conduct technical tests in accordance with the requirements of the international standard IEC 61683, within a quality system that ensures the traceability and accuracy of the results. This will provide the national market with a scientific control tool that has been absent for years, during which solar projects relied primarily on external certifications or commercial data provided by manufacturers.

The tests include, in particular, measuring the efficiency of photovoltaic inverters, monitoring losses in no-load and standby modes, and generating efficiency curves, in addition to calculating weighted and energy efficiency according to internationally recognised methodologies.

The laboratory also enables precise technical testing of the inverters’ actual performance, a crucial element in evaluating the quality of equipment used in grid-connected projects.

The results of these tests are documented in detailed and traceable technical reports that precisely define the conditions and limitations of the completed tests. This provides a reliable scientific reference that can be used to make informed technical and investment decisions in both public and private projects.

This service targets manufacturers, importers, construction companies, engineering firms, and all stakeholders in the solar energy sector who wish to compare the performance of their equipment, secure their technical choices, and rely on reliable test results rather than solely on theoretical specifications.

From this perspective, the direct daily impact of this step on the lives of citizens and the activity of customers is evident, as the adjustment of the performance of the inverters used in solar projects is reflected in the stability of the electrical current and the reduction of fluctuations and sudden outages, especially in areas that depend partially or wholly on electricity produced from solar energy, based on the fact that these tested and compliant equipment ensures a more stable energy conversion, which means more reliable electricity in daily use, whether inside homes or in facilities and services.
