FLN members refuse to pay dues

Algeria’s FLN party finds big difficulties in collecting its members’ dues as they were paid by six of them only in the last two years.

The party had to put pressure on its members to pay their dues and deprives them of joining Parliament’s structures and running for other terms.

The dues are estimated at 10 million centimes for each member and they are paid at each voting for Parliament’s structures renewal before July 2nd.

Dues payment is an essential condition to join the People’s National Assembly (APN), member of the FLN’s political office Abdelhamid Si Afif told Echorouk on the phone.

“Each member must pay dues,” he added.

The FLN includes 220 members. Six of them only paid their dues. The rest of the members will have to pay 20 million centimes before the end of the current spring session.

There is no legal text which obliges deputies to pay dues. “Yet, the FLN puts pressure on them to get that money,” said Si Afif.

“Some ministers in the FLN who were elected as deputies before their appointment in cabinet did pay their dues along with a number of businessmen,” he added.

“Because of that, the party will ask them to pay their two-year-dues. Otherwise, they will not be allowed to join Parliament’s structures.”
