FLN:people are asking for fourth term
Spokesman for Algeria’s National Liberation Front (FLN) Said Bouhedja said President Abdelaziz Bouteflika will present his medical file if he decides to run for office for a fourth term.
“No doubt that President Bouteflika will respect the law if he runs for office. He will submit a medical certificate to prove his mental and physical ability,” Bouhedja told Echorouk.
“The president’s health is good. If he runs for a fourth term, he will present evidences about his health ability,” he added.
Speaking about people opposing Bouteflika’s fourth term, he said the president will respect conditions. “President Bouteflika’s candidacy is now a popular request to ensure stability and sustainable development.”
A group of 20 political parties and national personalities showed opposition to any constitutional amendment before the forthcoming presidential elections due to be held in April 2014.
“This is the minority’s opinion and we respect it. Political reforms launched by President Bouteflika in 2011 show that most of those parties which are against the constitutional amendment used to have another opinion,” said Bouhedja.
He believes that the next constitutional amendment has nothing to do with the presidential elections but it will make relations between the State’s institutions clearer.
The opposition parties ask for an independent commission to supervise the elections as a main condition for credible elections.
The spokesman for the FLN said the creation of the commission is not something new as all recent elections held in Algeria were supervised by commissions composed of parties involved in those elections.
