Members of the political office of Algeria’s FLN party including ministers dismissed their coordinator Abderrahmane Belayat for usurping the authority of Secretary General and sowing discord among the party’s members, Echorouk has learnt.

Most of the office members signed a dismissal release. Of them, work minister Taib Louh, transport minister Amar Tou and health minister Abdelaziz Ziari, an official at the FLN said.

President of Relations with Parties and National Organizations Commission Abdelkader Mechbek and member of the political office in charge of exterior relations and Algerians living abroad Abdelhamid Si Afif refused to sign the release as they support Belayat.

“In view of the party situation, inappropriate behavior, non respect of its texts particularly Article 42 of the Statute and Article 9 of the Central Commission rules and regulations, discord among the members, we legally announce the dismissal of Belayat as he usurped the authority of the party’s coordinator,” said the release.

Conflicts took place among the FLN’s representatives in Parliament following its restructuration. That pushed the speaker of the People’s National Assembly Laarbi Ould Khlifa to postpone the restructuration elections and hold them before the opening of autumn parliamentary session.

The release will be read on Sunday at the FLN’s headoffice. The date of the central commission session will be announced afterward.

According to the same source, the Central Commission will meet directly after the fasting month of Ramadan to elect a new leader of the party.
