Football/ Ahmed Hassan to Echorouk : “The Pharaohs of Egypt take the Fennecs of Algeria very seriously”

In an exclusive interview in Cairo with Echorouk's reporter, the skipper of the Egypt national line-up and that of the prestigious Al Ahly squad, Ahmed Hassan, has said that the Egyptians should in no way under-estimate their opponents in the next qualifying matches for the 2010 World Cup to be hosted by South Africa.

Ahmed Hassan indicated, in this connection, that Egypt which were held to a one-all draw at home by a surprising Zambian team in the last qualifier, should draw lessons from this mishap.

He added that the Egyptian line-up should, henceforth, take all their opponents, notably the Algerian Fennecs, very seriously in order not to be left in the lurch in the qualification race for the 2010 World Cup.

Ahmed Hassan also evoked on the occasion the recent misfortunes that plagued the Al Ahly squad in the Egyptian championship competition.

He said the Al Ahly players had been playing up too much on their big reputation and had belittled other potent teams like Al Ismaili which is now riding on the standings after outplaying in a recent hot confrontation the indomitable squad of Zamalek.

Ahmed Hassan also spoke of his recent clash on the pitch with Zamalek’s rising star, Mohamed Hazem, in a championship game, stressing that the scuffle was due to nervousness and that the incident is now over after a mutual reconciliation.

Regarding the 10.000 Guini-fine inflicted on him by the Egyptian football federation, Ahmed Hassan asserted that he respected the decision, pledging by the same token, to abide in the future by the referee’s sovereign decisions without kicking up any row on the pitch as he woefully did versus Zamalek.
