- Algerian Foreign Minister Mourad Medelci has announced that Algeria and the European Union (EU) are set to hammer out a strategic agreement on oil and gas supplies in the course of 2012.
- Speaking on Tuesday to Channel 3 of the Algerian Radio in Algiers, the foreign affairs minister said the projected energy deal had been a matter of steady discussions and consultations since the year 2008.
- “Algeria is intent on sealing a memorandum of understanding with the EU on the energy file given that Algeria is Europe’s key supplier of oil and gas”, Medelci pointed out.
- On another issue regarding the domestic front, Mr Mourad Medelci underlined that Algeria, which fought and defeated, on its own, the nefarious scourge of terrorism during the black decade, is ready today to share its experience with others but it “does not need receiving any lessons from anyone,” as he bluntly put it.
- Mr Medelci added that that 2012 would be a “landmark” year for genuine political change in Algeria.
