Foreign Ministry Sets Conditions For The Evacuation Of Algerians Stranded Abroad

The Foreign Ministry informed the Algerian diplomatic representations abroad about a set of conditions and measures to complete the evacuation of the Algerians stranded due to the Coronavirus and the suspension of international air traffic.

FM confirmed that it will not cover the evacuation expenses of residents in the host country, and to give priority to university students and travellers who hold visas on a condition that they are valid before March 31, 2020.

A source linked to the file told Echorouk that the Foreign Ministry’s instructions stipulated that the priority will be given for the travellers who hold visas of the host country, provided that their validity date does not exceed March,31, 2020.

Students in universities of foreign countries and travellers with visas will have the priority of evacuation, as the embassies have been tasked with requiring those involved in the evacuation to have a set of information, foremost of which is the name, surname, date of birth, Algerian passport number, place of issuance, airline name and return ticket number to Algeria.

The instruction also stipulated that the Algerians concerned with the evacuation must provide the exact place of residence in Algeria, the phone number, the current status and the job whether the person is a student or a traveller in the context of a family or tourist visit, or in the framework of temporary seasonal business or work or only for international transit.

The evacuated person in any country will also be obligated to provide a copy of the passport accompanied by a copy of the visa granted to him/her by the country in which he/she is located.

The Foreign Ministry’s instructions asserted that the state will not undertake any evacuations of citizens who are permanently residing in the host country, and according to the instructions that are directed to diplomatic representations, the planes that are recruited for evacuation will be specifically for those who are actually students and travellers on the host country with a valid visa and maybe with some other exceptional cases.

These measures come in light of the registration of several diplomatic representations across the world with names of permanent residents in the host country, who expressed their desire to be evacuated and registered themselves in the lists.

Activists on Facebook said that Algerians stranded in several countries across the world, including the United States of America, Turkey, Dubai, Italy and several other countries, and more than 440 students or travellers who hold visas, which requires two planes to complete their evacuation.
