France Still Holds the Real Archive of Algeria, Official

The most important Algeria related archives are still stocked in France, and authorities have to work for recouping, at least, copies of them, general director of the National Archive Centre, Abdelhamid Cheikhi.

 

In an interview with al-Jaish magazine, Mr Cheikhi said that Turkey and Spain, for example, hold big deal of archive related to the Turkish presence in Algeria and Spanish short term occupation of western Algeria. He added that talks have already been started with Turkey and Spain, in order to recoup the archive, and yet fill gaps of Algeria history with concrete materials.  

However, the official indicated that the recent load of archives that France handed over to the Algerian TV Enterprise (ENTV) is not important, historically talking, calling France to hand over more important archive to Algeria, so that scientists and history researchers can get profit of them.
