France to boost control on flights from Algeria : French Minister
France will tighten controls on air travellers, including those from Algeria. This was announced Tuesday, December 29, by the French Interior Minister, Brice Hortefeux, a few days after the failed attempt of a suicide attack on a flight from Amsterdam to Detroit.
-
Controls include requiring personal information about the passengers to be provided at time of booking.
-
Since last February 19, Algeria is on the French list of risk countries for which data on passengers are required.
-
Brice Hortefeux hopes that new data are collected, including the place of booking, billing adress, phone number and email address.
-
Besides Algeria, that list of risk countries include Yemen, Syria, Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan and Mali.
-
The airlines from these countires will become, as from January 1, sentenced to pay 50.000 euros fines if they refuse to transmit the required data.
