French elected representatives to visit Algeria
A delegation of French provincial elected representatives will pay a visit to Algeria in the next few weeks, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur (PACA) said.
-
The delegation which will include Mayor of Marseille and Vice-President of the Senate Jean Claude Gaudin will be among the visiting members will be received by Algerian Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia.
-
-
The French representatives will hold talks about Algeria’s complementary finance law 2009 which was said to be restricting imports.
-
-
Previously on September 28th, French local elected representatives expressed concerns about the new law and asked to meet the Algerian president Abdelaziz Bouteflika.
-
-
An outcry followed this decision which had a negative impact on the activities of Marseille port. They dropped by 40 percent.
-
-
Exchanges with Algeria represent 10 to 12 percent of goods traffic at the port of Marseille. The delegation’s head Michel Vauzelle hailed the initiative describing it as very positive for partnership with Algeria.

“We are asking to consider that at the highest level. I am very happy about that because it will be with the Prime Minister, not to make the Algerian government reconsider the law it approved. We totally respect its sovereignty but we will discuss how relaxing measures can be possible in the law enforcement decrees.”
