French Media Criticize Andy Delort’s Lacklustre Performance

The Algerian international, Andy Delort, who plays for the French club Montpellier faces a lot of criticism on Monday from the French media, after his lacklustre performance in the match against Angers for the 31st round of the French Ligue 1, which cost the club to waste two valuable points in the calculations of qualifying for the Europa League next season, especially after the Greens’ star missed two goal-scoring opportunities during this match.

Montpellier secured a 1-1 draw in front of Angers at the latter’s stadium after he was superior in the score from the 47th minute with a goal by Stephy Mavididi before Angers equalized in the 72nd minute by Stéphane Bohoken after a missed goal by Delort got a chance to score the winning goal but was unable to beat goalkeeper Paul Bernardoni.

The French media strongly criticized the performance of the Algerian striker, and L’Equipe newspaper gave him a score of 3 out of ten, describing him as the worst player in the match, in contrast to what Delort used to receive from the French media that praised him since the beginning of the new season, and this lacklustre performance by the Algerian international coincided with the case of his “refusal” to join the recent “Desert Warriors” training camp, under the pretext of a medical file highlighting his suffering from a muscle injury, which was not appreciated by Algeria’s national coach, Djamel Belmadi, who publicly criticized him and said in media statements: “The commitment of some players to the national team was not at the level … I did not like this behaviour”, referring to Delort and Ferhat.

The Algerian striker posted a tweet, in which he apologized to the fans who unanimously said that their star made his worst match this season, saying; “It is better to take responsibility for your mistakes than to pretend you are perfect. I am sorry, but I am very angry”, referring to the Algerian star’s own recognition of being responsible for his club’s defeat.

The Algerian player’s tweet met with wide interaction among Montpellier supporters, who strongly supported him, noting that even the big players pass by in some matches, calling on him to lead the club to participate in the European competition next season, knowing that Delort is currently playing one of his best seasons in football because he participated in 22 out of the 31 matches in the French Ligue A this season, during which he scored 10 goals and created eight more.
