French Ministry of Culture Ready to Partake in the Celebrations of Algeria’s Independence Day

French Minister of Culture, Frederic Mitterrand, said he is ready to partake in the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the independence of Algeria in July 2012..

He added that most importantly is to “show that the humanitarian bridge between Algeria and France is still working under any historical circumstances.”

At the side lines of the visit he paid to the Algiers International Book Fair Algerian Minister Khalida Messaoudi, Mr Mitterrand told reporters “Algeria and France have already established a co-owned edition, namely Acte-Sud, but this one represents a drop in the ocean. It’s a dimension we have to focus on in order to reach, through French editors, more interesting co-editions.”

As for the French Algeria co-edition, Mr Mitterrand said the two parties have to make more efforts to reach such an end.

He added that bilateral cultural relations between Paris and Algiers will be boosted with some projects that he has discussed with some local institutions, saying the validated projects will be announced as by October.

He further added that Algeria will attend the festivities of Marseille: Europe’s Culture Capital, in 2013.

However, the French Minister avoided making comments on the “Arab Spring” blowing on the region, saying he is in cultural visit to Algeria.
