Gaid Salah: “The Army Has No Candidate In The Presidential Elections”

Maj. Gen. Ahmed Gaid Salah, Deputy Minister of National Defense and Chief of Staff of the National People’s Army, said on Sunday that what is being circulated about the presence of a candidate for the army in the next presidential elections is merely propaganda which aimed at disrupting the polls.

In a speech during a visit to the second military region, Gaid Salah confirmed that “among the propaganda that is promoted by the gang (mafia or corrupts) and its thugs, who must be fought and addressed, those who are trying to promote that the National People’s Army recommends one of the candidates for the next presidential elections, which is a propaganda that aimed at confusing this important national event”.

“We affirm in this regard that it is up to the people to choose the next president through voting and that the National People’s Army does not recommend anyone, and this is a promise that I make before Allah, the nation and history”, he explained.

“We reaffirm, out of frankness that the liberation revolution has taught us, that we are sincere in our words and sincere in our actions and we will never depart from our positions. We are determined to continue confronting the gang (mafia of corrupts) until we get rid of its evils”.

Statements of Gaid Salah came after the circulation of information about the presence of a candidate that is supported by the military institution among those who applied for the race, especially those who held previous senior posts such as Abdelmadjid Taboune and Ali Ben Flis.
