Galloway calls on Algeria to facilitate passage of relief supplies and people towards Gaza
The former British Parliamentarian and fervent human rights' campaigner, George Galloway, who is now on a visit of friendship to Algeria, held on Wednesday an open press conference at the international press center of Kouba in upper Algiers devoted to the preparations for the launching of a new Maghrebian aid operation in favour of the besieged Palestinian population of Gaza.
-
This get-together was held in the presence of members of the Algerian popular committee of support for the Palestinian people, including Algerian MP Azzedine Mokri, several historical personalities and a host of media figures from several Algerian news outlets.
-
George Galloway first said that this brand-new aid relief operation in favour of the oppressed Gaza population, if it were hopefully to succeed, needed the backing of all the news media with their awareness-raising writings and the active involvement of all the members of the civil society.
-
Mr Galloway said that his presence in Algeria on this solemn occasion was to be construed as a moral boost on his part for the smooth running of this lofty humanitarian mission towards Gaza despite the difficulties entailed owing to the hurdles facing the funneling of this aid notably starting from the Egyptian port of El Arich.
-
George Galloway called in this respect on Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak himself to intervene personally to allow these relief supplies to reach the Palestinian enclave of Gaza with no hitch.
-
He indicated however that once the aid supplies reached Al Arich, “nothing could stop us to funnel this aid to Gaza”, as he put it.
-
Furthermore, George Galloway stressed that to all intents and purposes, the enemy was not Egypt but Israel itself whose hawkish authorities have been doing everything to oppress and to starve the heroic population of Gaza only because they had democratically chosen in fair and transparent polls their legitimate government.
-
Mr Galloway blasted the Israeli Policy as inhuman and in blatant violation of all humanitarian laws stressing that this glaring injustice towards the besieged Gaza population could not be condoned or tolerated by all justice and freedom-loving peoples around the world.
