Germany Invites Algeria To Berlin Conference On Libya After It Was Previously Excluded From It
The President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune received a phone call from German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Monday, January 6, which lasted nearly half an hour, according to a statement issued by the Presidency of the Republic.
“At the beginning of their telephone conversation, Ms. Merkel sent her warm congratulations to the President of the Republic following his election to the supreme magistracy,” the same source said, adding that “the German Chancellor also presented, following the recent death of late Lieutenant General Ahmed Gaïd Salah, her sincere condolences to the President of the Republic, the Algerian people and the family of the deceased.
The two sides then “reviewed the development of bilateral relations and agreed to give them a new impetus in various fields, particularly in the economic field”, according to the communiqué, stressing that “at the external level, the President of the Republic and the German Chancellor exchanged analyses on the situation now prevailing in Libya and the prospects for establishing peace in this brotherly country”.
President Tebboune and German Chancellor Angela Merkel noted, in this regard, “a convergence of views on the imperative of finding a political solution to the Libyan crisis, ending the armed conflict and putting an end to foreign military interference”.
In this respect, “Ms. Merkel has officially sent an invitation to Algeria to attend the International Conference on Libya scheduled in Berlin,” added the statement of the Presidency of the Republic.
The German Chancellor has also extended an invitation to the President of the Republic, Mr. Tebboune, to pay an official visit to Germany, noted the same source, pointing out that this invitation had been accepted by the President of the Republic, the date of such a visit is to be decided by mutual agreement at a later date.
