Government Prohibits The Importation Of Less 5-Years-Old Used Cars
Members of the National People’s Finance and Budget Committee rejected the proposal to extend the life of used cars less than 5 years, which import is licensed from abroad, for reasons that they described as being “in the interest of the citizen”, and preferred to be satisfied with cars less than 3 years, gasoline and diesel, considering that the 2015 cars in Europe are technically old.
Echorouk learned from the Finance and Budget Committee of the People’s Assembly, that the deputies of the Finance and Budget Committee of the parliament during the preparation of the preliminary report of the draft finance law for 2020, which will be discussed tomorrow, rejected the amendment to allow the import of used cars less than 5 years, and it comes to gasoline and diesel car together, which will be limited to cars less than 3 years only.
The deputies also failed to pass the proposal of importing used cars once every 5 years and what is left in the law and related to every three years, as article 106 of the draft law provides for the licensing of the new car customs at the level of company for the transport of persons and goods, including tractors and cars of special use, for consumption, and it is also licensed for the tourist car that is listed in the tariff position No. 8703 with a piston engine and dispatching a “diesel” spark with less than 3 years and that is imported by private individuals who are residing once every 3 years on their own account in their foreign currency balance that is opened in Algeria, in order to put it up for consumption with the payment of all rights and duties that are provided for under the common law system.
Imported vehicles shall be in their used condition equipped with a liquefied natural gas, refueling system or ready for conversion to this system, ie hybrid or electric, and any contrary measure that is relating to the importation of vehicles (mentioned above) shall be canceled.
On the other hand, the Committee also dropped a mandatory proposal to pay taxes that are equivalent to DZD 6,000 on the cars of foreigners entering Algeria and Algerian immigrants as well, as a fee for the temporary entry of these vehicles.
