Guemati: Queddafi’s tomb will remain unknown

The Libyan opposition figure and member of the National Transitional Council Djemaa Lekmati has indicated that a consensus has been reached between the new authorities and representatives from Moammar El- Queddafi’s tribe to burry the former leader in an unknown place to avoid the profanation of his tomb.

  • Echourouk: The execution of Moammar El- Queddafi without a trial is a clear infringement to Geneva’s treaty over war prisoners; won’t the NTC bear responsibility for this act?

  • Lekmati:   There wasn’t any official order issued from the military command to execute any prisoners especially El – Queddafi because the intent was to bring him before the court; but he was captured by overzealous revolutionaries. What’s certain is his execution was not ordered by any official party.

  • Echourouk: Is it due to a loss of control over the revolutionaries on the ground?

  • Lekmati:  Not at all, but the revolutionaries on the ground decide for themselves during the battles and the decisions are made quickly.

  • Echourouk:  So killed Al – Queddafi?

  • Lekmati:  It’s very hard to answer his question for the moment and we cannot determine what really happened. What is certain, according to the forensic who examined his body, El Queddafi was injured before his arrest and shot after that. He died when on his way to the hospital in Misurata , but we don’t know who shot him.

  • Echourouk: Some parties have indicated that the NATO ordered his execution and linked his death to the visit of the US FM ?

  • Lekmati: These allegations are baseless, there wasn’t any order neither from NATO, nor from any other party and not even from Hillary Clinton. I tell once again the killing of El Queddafi was not ordered neither by the NTC , nor by the military command.
