Guerguerat: “Egyptian Foreign Minister Discusses Crisis With His Algerian And Moroccan Counterparts”
A spokesman for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement, Saturday, that Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry exchanged contacts with the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sabri Boukadoum, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Cooperation in Morocco, Nasser Bourita, as part of following up the developments of the crisis in the Guerguerat region.
The spokesman added that Egypt continues to closely follow the developments of the situation, and make the necessary contacts in a way that preserves stability, based on its responsibility towards its Arab brothers and in a way that safeguards their interests by averting any tension in the region, according to the official Middle East News Agency.
These developments come after the Moroccan army, on Friday, carried out a military assault in the Guerguerat area, while the Sahrawi government said that its army firmly responded to these provocations from Rabat.
In turn, Algeria called on the two parties, at issue namely the Kingdom of Morocco and the Polisario Front, to show responsibility and restraint, and fully respect the military agreement No. 1 signed between them and the United Nations, according to a foreign ministry statement released on Friday.
