Haddad, Eulmi, Ouyahia, Sellal And 11 Former Ministers Before Justice Again
The Court of Sidi M’hamed (Court of Algiers) announced the resumption of the judgment of two important cases on Monday 11th May.
These are the trials of Ali Haddad and that of Mourad Eulmi former boss of the car assembly company Sovac.
Ali Haddad and Mourad Eulmi are being prosecuted on several corruption-related charges, including obtaining, in violation of the law, privileges, benefits and public contracts.
These two main defendants have not been released from prison due to the Coronavirus outbreak, nor have their many co-accused been released. Several former high-ranking officials are being prosecuted for granting illegal advantages to these businessmen, who were among the oligarchs closest to the ousted Bouteflika circle.
The two former heads of government, Ahmed Ouyahia and Abdelmalek Sellal (already prosecuted in several cases) are on the list.
Other ministers are also mentioned in the corruption, misappropriation and embezzlement file.
They are Amar Ghoul, Boudjemaa Talaî, Abdelghani Zaalane, Abdesslam Bouchouareb (on the run), Yousef Yousfi, Mahdjoub Bedda, and Amara Benyounes.
Me Zakaria Dahlouk, a lawyer representing the Public Treasury, described the case as “a real disaster”, as businessmen Ali Haddad alone has obtained 279 economic projects and 452 bank loans.
