Algeria has provided 500,000 US dollars worth of aid to the former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, in 2010, destined purportedly to her Charity Foundation: “Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton”, after the United States were indirectly affected at that time by the violent earthquake in Haiti.

The American newspaper “Washington Post” of late issued data revealing that Hillary Clinton had received financial contributions from seven Governments including Algeria, while bitterly criticizing her acceptance of these funds by virtue of the honorary agreement, signed by the former US Secretary of state herself, not to accept any financial assistance from foreign countries, after joining her post within the US Administration.

The “Clinton Foundation” said the newspaper, accepted millions of dollars, including $ 500,000 from Algeria (the equivalent of more than 5 billion centimes in Dinars), claiming that the offered financial package was directed to assist in the earthquake relief in Haiti.

The US daily also stressed that Algeria had sought in that period to bolster willy-nilly its relations with Washington, against a backdrop of scathing criticism of human rights breaches in Algeria itself.

The Algerian side wanted to tone down this criticism on the part of the US Administration through this self-interested goodwill gesture by delivering the money, the “Washington Post” surmised.

According to figures revealed by the “Washington Post”, the United Arab Emirates donated between 1 million to $ 5 million to the Clinton Foundation last year, the German Government for its part provided $ 25,000, Saudi Arabia has provided some $ 25 million to the Foundation since its inception in 1999, the Sultanate of Oman offered between 1 million to $ 5 million, and among corporate donors, the US daily cited “Goldman Sachs” Bank and Coca-Cola Company.

The Foundation also received money from customers of the Swiss branch of HSBC Bank, who were among those at the heart of the major tax evasion scandal exposed recently, the US newspaper added.
