Human Rights activist Ali Yahia Abdennour calls on the president Bouteflika to express himself about the state of emergency

The honorary chairman of the Algerian Human Rights Association, Ali Yahia Abdennour has vehemently slashed at the interior minister Dahou Oueld kablia who recalled in an interview made to the daily newspaper “ Liberté” that marches and rallies were forbidden in Algiers, calling for the president Abdelaziz Bouteflika to clearly speak up his mind concerning the issue.

  • The lawyer and human rights activist has stressed in a declaration to Echourok on “ the necessity to lift the state of emergency” that he considers “ the source of all forms of violations of the individual liberties”.

  • Ali Yahia Abdennour has indicated that “ The regime has excessively expanded the state of emergency for 19 years”, noting that “ the legally constituted nations would not impose it more than 10 days”.

  • The layers went on sating that “ the government is self- contradictory and is infringing the constitution with its own laws, while some parties are explaining the ban of the marches in Algiers by the overall security situation that’s prevailing in the country, others are boasting that the era of terror is over”.

  • Ali Yahia Abdennour, added in this respect, that “ the regime is disconnected from the people” and thus, time has come “ to push it to retirement and erect a new free democratic one through a peaceful process”.

  • The lawyer has called “ for peaceful marches to advocate the lift of the emergency state, more political and media freedom and free judiciary system”; he quoted the famous French novelist victor Hugo saying “ Unleash freedom and it will do the rest”; adding “ revolution doesn’t belong to its riggers but to those who pursue it”.

  • As to the latest march led by the opposition party Rally for culture and Democracy ( RCD), Ali Yahia Abdennour has indicated that “ the security forces didn’t resort to violence with us and were very diplomatic”.
