Human Rights League: Finance Law 2016 will harm 14 million Algerians
The Algerian League for Human Rights warned against the finance draft law 2016, describing it as “the fiercest law ever” as it threatens peace and social stability.
The League said the new finance law will impose taxes which will harm around 14 million poor people.
It raised questions about the $200 billion allocated for investment during the last 10 years.
The League sounded the alarm about indicators which may hit social stability due to new taxes.
“The Finance Law 2016 will open doors to a new feudal regime in Algeria. There are more than 14 million poor people in the country. Their situation will be more difficult with those new taxes,” said the League’s Secretary General Kaddour Houari.
“Why does the government hold people only responsible for squandering. It neglects the main reason behind hard currency smuggling and the absence of national production out of hydrocarbons,” he said in a release.
“The government must be questioned about the $200 billion budget. Officials responsible for the bad management should be punished,” he added.
Speaking about the ban of 16 countries’ debt, the League said this decision caused the current economic crisis in Algeria. “It will be negatively reflected on people by obliging him to pay new taxes.”
