I Urge Obama to Cancel the International Arrest Warrant, Raissi

Algerian pilot, Lotfi Raissi, who was the first person charged in connection with the September 11, 2001 attacks, urges US authorities to cancel the international arrest warrant issued against him on the aftermath of 9/11 bombings, as the British justice has cleaned him, apologized and compensated him.

Mr Lotfi told Echorouk reporter that he is still unable to travel freely, except to Algeria and Britain, due to the aforementioned international arrest warrant.

“Unfortunately, the warrant is still effective, as the US authorities update it every year, and I seize this opportunity to call on President Abdelaziz Bouteflika to intervene for the US authorities to stop this “pleasantry,” and I’m confident that the government and Mr Bouteflika are able to cancel such an unjustified warrant, given that I have already been acquitted by British justice, and I got apologies and compensation from the British government;” Lotfi said, adding: “So I wonder why does the US government, which  chants freedom and democracy, maintain such an illegal and immoral attitude!

“I liked the speech of Obama to the Muslim World in Cairo in 2009, and I wish US ideals initiated by Thomas Jefferson to be impressed on my case.”

As whether to sue the US Administration for maintaining the international arrest warrant, Mr Lotfi said: “Well, I call the current administration to review such an issue, and I’m sure that the Obama Administration is not responsible for what happened, yet it is judicially and ethically responsible for acts of the precedent administration, given that the arrest warrant is being reactivated each year.”

Mr Raissi further added that “I’d like to thank the government for I’ve come to know that the Minister in charge of Nationals Abroad has started looking at my case in bid to cancel the international arrest warrant.”
