Illegal transfer overseas of millions of Euros and Dollars through a mobile phone selling shop in Algiers district of Hydra

Well-informed sources told Echorouk that the examining magistrate of the Bir Mourad Rais tribunal is currently looking into a case related to the illegal transfer overseas of hard currency in Euros and Dollars involving a group of defendants accused of smuggling activities in hard currency and illegal trading in it.

• Four of them have already been rounded up and are now under close examination while a fifth one, who is believed to be the mastermind of this trafficking ring, is still on the run.

• The latter is the owner of a mobile phone selling shop in the district of Hydra in upper Algiers and has used his shop for a long time as a cover-up for the smuggling and illegal trading in hard currencies including Euros and Dollars.

• The people now behind bars in connection with this affair are said to hold top jobs in several companies based in Algiers.

• Numerous personalities and senior figures including high executives and business managers of several big firms used to buy and sell large amounts in hard currency in this targeted mobile selling shop, according to sources from the security services.

• The investigation is still underway to unravel all the intricacies of this smuggling affair with the arrest and the bringing before justice of all the implicated offenders.
