Imams Urged to Preach Patriotism to Fight Extremism
The Ministry of Religious Affairs has called upon imams nationwide to preach patriotism and counter extremism.
Media Advisor for the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Adda Fellahi, told Echorouk reporter that libraries pertaining to mosques will be provided load of books in different domains, including national history and biographies of emblematic national personalities, in bid to contribute in promoting the sense of patriotism among mosque’s goers.
“Such a measure should not be understood as a kind of guardianship on the citizen’s mind, but rather an attempt to make of the mosque a source of safeguarding the national background, as imams are called to contribute in preaching nationalism as part of their job as promoters of positive values in the society,” Mr Fellahi said.
He added “The imam should work on convincing people to be devoted to patriotism as a positive value.”
In this regard, the Ministry of Religious Affairs has scheduled a set of international conferences that accentuate the nationalism-Islam ratio.
