Senior DRS intelligence Services officer General Hassan appeared on Sunday before a military examining magistrate in the city of Blida, 50 Kms from Algiers to answer for serious charges leveled against him in the wake of a decision by the top military hierarchy sending him to early retirement.

High-level sources told Echorouk that General Hassan was summoned on Sunday to Blida’s military tribunal where he was questioned at length by an examining magistrate on manifold charges brought against him.

The same sources added that the defendant is accused of forming a criminal gang, arms trafficking and of committing grave security lapses and blunders which led to last year’s bloody terrorist attack on the Tiguentourine gas complex In In Amenas in Southern Algeria.

The current judicial investigation into General Hassan’s dealings are still underway and if the examining magistrate finds any incriminating evidence in this file, General Hassan will then be brought to face trial before a military court, the same sources indicated.

A source close to the file told Echorouk that defendant General Hassan had affirmed to the military examining magistrate that all his endeavours as an intelligence officer were in keeping with the country’s laws and regulations.
