In close conjunction with the Algerian Popular Army which provided minute intelligence information, the Tunisian armed forces have intercepted a truck loaded with weapons destined to terrorist groups entrenched in the forests of Mount Chaambi close to the border with Algeria.

Security sources told Echorouk that the arms load was intercepted on Sunday coming from Libya and was reportedly destined to the so-called “Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb” terrorist movement operating on both sides of the border.

In another development, The Algerian army killed three Tunisian terrorists in northeastern province of Tebessa near the border with Tunisia, security sources told Echorouk.

The three terrorists were hunted down by a reconnaissance unit of the Algerian army. An ambush was set by the Special Forces before the armed men were shot dead, the same sources added.

A big quantity of ammunition, grenades and explosive belts were confiscated during the operation in Tebessa, some 580 km southeast of the capital Algiers.

On July 25, eight Tunisian soldiers were killed by terrorists in the forests of Mount Chaambi in the Kasserine Governorate near the border with Algeria.

Since then, Tunisian army units have launched large-scale combing operations to track down the perpetrators.

On Thursday, Algerian Interior Minister Daho Ould Kablia said that Algeria had stepped up security presence with the deployment of hundreds of troops on the border with Tunisia to thwart any attempt of cross-border intrusion by terrorist groups.
