The Ministry of the Interior and local assemblies has announced that the project for the issuing of the biometric national identity card has already has gone through the various phases of implementation, stressing that there will be no delay in the finalization process of this important official document.

According to a Ministry representative, the biometric identity card project launched late last year in Algeria is now well in progress and the first national biometric identity card is slated to be delivered by the month of June 2015 at the latest, barring any adverse contingency in the ultimate completion process.

He further estimated the number of Algerian citizens who have a national identification number at over 4.5 million, in line with official figures.

He also pointed out that the biometric passport and the biometric national ID card projects are not similar and are submitted to differing procedures and stages of completion.
