Interview- Armed acts in Egypt will justify army crimes, says FIS leader Kamal Guemazi
Former senior member of the banned-Islamic Salvation (FIS) Kamel G²uemazi warned the Muslim Brotherhood members in Egypt against using arms because this would give to the military coup partisans the opportunity to justify their crimes. “Honest mediators must intervene to find a peaceful solution and stop the bloodshed,” he told Echorouk in an interview.
First of all, what do you think about what is happening in Egypt?
It is a pity. What happened in Algeria may happen in Egypt.
Some say the Muslim Brotherhood members committed the same mistakes of the FIS.
That’s not true. First of all, the FIS won the legislative elections while its leaders were in jail. The Egyptians should have talked about Morsi’s achievements and plans to reach political peaceful solutions until a month before he had been ousted. It is about dominant nations’ interest and internal enemies.
Some believe that arrests among the Muslim Brotherhood senior members may push people to use arms. What do you think about that?
The coup partisans try to push their opponents to use arms so that they would justify their fight under the slogan of “countering terrorism.” We hope that Egyptian people will not make this mistake.
In his speech, al-Sisi said Egypt is for all. Can Al-Azhar Sheikh be a mediator to find a peaceful solution after al-Sisi’s remarks?
Mediation should be from honest scholars such as Tarek al-Bachari or Salim al-Awa.
