Security sources in Libya announced that their authorities are negotiating with 3 neighbouring countries, including Algeria, to deport what they called ISIS “female recruits”.
The Emirati “Sky News” channel quoted unnamed sources as saying, “There are negotiations between the judicial authorities in Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt to receive ISIS women recruits who were arrested in Libya.”
According to Sky News, “The Libyan authorities arrested these women on the front lines in the cities of Sirte and Sabratha, and their involvement in joining ISIS and Al Qaida in Libya has been proven.”
“The Algerian, Egyptian and Tunisian authorities agreed to receive the accused, noting that legal measures are being taken in this regard”, it explained.
“Some of the arrested female recruits have completed their sentences in western Libyan prisons, and some countries have previously refused to receive women accused of joining ISIS, amid popular rejection in some of these countries for their return”.
A report published by the Washington Institute for Near East Policy in 2018 said; “A thousand women are fighting in the ranks of ISIS in Libya, 300 of them are Tunisians”.
“ISIS ranks also include women from many countries, including Algeria and Morocco. Their role is to mate, have children, and support their fighting partners”.
Algerians Are The Least Recruited By ISIS
Algeria is one of the countries witnessing the recruitment of fighters in the ranks of ISIS, according to previous statements by officials and studies of specialized centres.
In 2018, a research study issued by the American Soufan Group showed that the number of Algerians ISIS recruits did not exceed 200, which is a small percentage if compared to other neighbouring countries.
