Is appeasement in store for crisis-prone FLN party?
The showdown between the coordinator of the FLN politbureau and his opponents has taken a new turn with the list of the new party members in the structures of the national popular Assembly called into question and is about to be revamped.
Such a list worked out by Abderrahmane Belayat has vehemently been decried by his opponents who demanded a review of the roster citing unfair cooptation within the legislative body.
The review of the controversial list which will be subjected to amendments was confirmed in a communiqué issued by the FLN politbureau at the end of a broad-based meeting here in Algiers.
The FLN party counts 210 deputies at the national popular Assembly. 123 MP’s attended the politbureau meeting with 6 voting for the holding of elections and over 120 voted for the mode of designation.
However, Belayat’s opponents have succeeded through unflagging pressures and against all odds to turn the situation around and to bring the FLN politbureau to give the so-ahead to a much-sought overhaul of the list of the new party members in the structures of the Assembly in a bid to redress the imbalance and thereby defuse the simmering internecine crisis gripping the Party, as they claimed.
