Isabelle Adjani to attend Pan African Culture Festival in Algeria, says minister

Algerian culture ministry Khalida Toumi said Algeria is ready to host the second Pan African Culture Festival while the opening ceremony will be marked by the performance of the Algerian born star Isabelle Adjani and Warda El-Djazairia.

  • “The organisers resolved the problem of transporting the participating delegations on Wednesday night,” Toumi told Echorouk in an interview.
  • Algeria will host the festival on July 5-21st. Its opening ceremony will be organised in Algiers.
  • The minister expressed his delight that “stars like Kamel Wali, Isabelle Adjani and Warda El-Djazairia will participate in the ceremony.”
  • “Adajani will read extracts of Frantz Fanon,” she added.
  • More than 8,000 participants will attend the festival.
  • Toumi says a report from the World Bank said Algeria and South Africa are the only African countries which can organise big events. “I remind you that Algeria was successful in hosting the African Games in which 13,000 took part.”
  • She added that Algeria will receive 34 ministers and other famous figures.
  • “The festival will be preceded by a popular show in Algiers. It will include 53 big lorries. Each one will represent an African country. Algerian folklore bands and a republican guards troop will also be there.
  • Toumi promised the Algerian people of two spectacular fireworks shows, saying everyone will have free admission to all the events.
  • Speaking on ‘The Artists’ Village which was renamed to be ‘The Artists’ Residence,” the minister said it cost 400 billion centimes. That means the half of the budget devoted to the festival.
  • “The most important point in this project is the fact that it was achieved by Algerian ideas and manpower. It was achieved in a record time of nine months,” Toumi said.
