Columnists in large Israeli newspapers such as Haaretz, Blobes and Maariv as well as a number of online newspapers criticised Algeria’s position and reservations.
-
Speaking on behalf of Arab countries, Algeria asked for “explanations” on possible repercussions of Israel’s participation in that project. The North African country does not want that participation to be a door for normalising ties with the Hebrew State.

-
Haaretz made a comparison between Libya’s position and the “anti-Israel Algerian one.”

Israeli newspapers previously launched serious accusations against Algeria
-
-
In 1991, an Israeli newspaper published a story with pictures alleging that they were taken from satellites to spy on Algeria which “was going to develop its nuclear arsenal.”
-
-
In that regard, Algeria opened its two nuclear reactors to Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) experts. They confirmed that the reactors were set up for pure peaceful purposes.
-
On the other hand, a big campaign was launched against Algeria because Jewish singer Enrico Macias could not pay a visit to Algeria where he was born.
-
A number of newspapers said that “Macias did not loose anything from not visiting Algeria in view of bad security conditions there.”
-
Israeli newspapers compared the situation in Algeria to Afghanistan without missing any opportunity to write on it especially concerning security conditions.
-
They sometimes try to gain international public opinion sympathy by alleging that Israel supports Algerians in their fight against terrorism.
