Italian Media Praises Faouzi Ghoulam’s Good Performance
Italian media praised the Algerian international, Faouzi Ghoulam, defender of the Napoli club, after his good performance in the match against Benevento in the 24th round of the Italian Serie A, and his contribution to the victory of his club with 2-0, in the first match the Algerian international basically entered and completed without being replaced, which made the Italians predict with the possibility of restoring some of his glam.
Napoli’s match against Benevento, on Sunday, was the first for the Algerian defender, in which he participated as a basic player and from the beginning to end in the Italian League, at a time when he started only one main match, and that was in the 11th round against Sampdoria on December 13 of last year, where he participated for a period of 59 minutes before he was replaced, after which he was satisfied with rare participation during 12 rounds, where he played only 47 minutes divided into four matches, while in six full matches he remained on the bench, and he missed two matches due to his infection with the Coronavirus, so the Benevento match came to restore some hope to Goulam who stumbled technically and physically since 2017 due to two knee injuries.
Various Italian sports websites and those specialized in statistics have praised Ghoulam’s good performance, after the aforementioned match which left a good impression suggesting his ability to regain his basic position in the Italian southern club, with evidence that he obtained a wonderful rating of 7.5 out of 10, according to the famous “WhoScored” website, to rank third in terms of ratings for the players who participated in the match, equally with the French player Tiémoué Bakayoko and behind Dries Mertens (7.7 out of 10) and Matteo Politano (7.6 out of 10), as a result of their scoring of the two goals of Napoli’s victory, and the former French Saint Etienne’s defender also scored some odd numbers as he shot twice on goal, won four aerial battles and took four corner kicks, and his pass accuracy in the match was 84%.
Previously, the Algerian international had gone through a challenging period that lasted for three full years due to the curse of injuries, which prevented him from regularly participating with Napoli, specifically since the Manchester City meeting in the European Champions League in 2017, during which he was subjected to a cut in the cruciate ligament before he underwent surgery, another injury followed in the same knee after his hasty return to the field.
Ghoulam did not succeed in securing a key position with the southern Italian club after his return to the competition, according to different coaches, whether Maurizio Sarri, Carlo Ancelotti, or even during the era of the current coach, Gennaro Gattuso, and if he made a good impression in recent matches, he may change his technical position in the club in the future, after the former Milan player decided to give him the opportunity again and the confidence he needs to regain his known levels, especially after all his dismissal efforts failed and he was offered for sale during the past months.
