Jews originating from Algeria's southern Mizab region demand restitution of their property
Jews calling themselves “the Jews of the Mizab” have launched a campaign on a website with the aim of retrieving property, including plots of lands and businesses which were in their possession, according to their own assertions, during the French colonial period in Algeria.
They are using this internet website to further their claims by giving dates and pinpointing spots with the help of maps testifying to their presence in several southern regions of Algeria notably in Ghardaia and Laghouat starting from 1832 until 1962.
Observers note that this fiery agitation comes in the wake of a visit made last month by a group of “pieds noirsâ€Â Jewish origin to southern Ghardaia province.
During their stay, they extensively toured the region and visited several former Jewish districts and religious shrines.
