The independent candidate to the April 17 presidential elections in Algeria, Ali Benflis, received on Thursday at his election campaign headquarters in Algiers, the members of the Lawyers’ National Coordination with the aim of expounding his election program with on focus his intention to overhaul and upgrade the current judicial system.

Ali Benflis said during the encounter that the independence of justice in Algeria existed only in the texts and was not implemented on the ground.

He stressed that a lot of lingering logjams interfered in the implementation of the law and the independence of justice in the country.

“Certain dutiful magistrates have been striving to apply the law in all its rigour but the judicial authority remains weak and not strong enough to impose the judicial rulings due to numerous constraints”, he underscored.

Ali Benflis pledged that, if he’s elected at the helm of the nation during the upcoming presidential polls, to deeply revamp the justice sector and make it entirely independent from the other spheres of power for the benefit of all the citizens seeking justice in their legal proceedings.

“This is not a speech, but a genuine promise on my agenda”, hammered candidate Ali Benflis.

He also affirmed that nowadays under the current judicial system, the procedural rules were sometimes wittingly paralyzed so as to enable some failing officials without a clean slate to escape justice through the all-pervasive “judicial privilege”.

Thereby, Ali Benflis pledged to review this outstanding file so that offenders can be sued before justice regardless of their responsibilities or social standing.
