Juvenile delinquency on the rise in Tizi Ouzou

Figures released by official sources reveal that more that 400 teenagers were involved in various criminal acts in the province of Tizi Ouzou, 100 KMS east of Algiers, since the beginning of the year.

• 5 cases were related to terrorist acts and assistance to terrorist groups while 32 minors were charged with various misdemeanours mostly linked to prostitution. 6 teenagers were convicted for blackmailing thorough cell phones.

• Among the treated cases, 26 of them were related to teenagers without driving licence and 24 drug and psychotropic dealers. Meanwhile, 139 cases of juvenile delinquency were registered last year.

• Several parties have explained the alarming growth of criminality among youngsters and teenagers by the exploitation of the shaky security situation in this province by these criminal groups to assault citizens and plunder their properties by night using teenagers and children who live in precarious social conditions.
