Kaddafi family not dangerous on Libyan people, Mourad Medelci says
Algeria will support Libya and cooperate with its officials in all fields, new files and prospects will be open between the two countries in the future, FM Mourad Medelci says Monday in Tripoli.
In a joint press conference with his Libyan counterpart Achour Ben Khayal, Medelci asserted that he visits Libya to tighten solidarity and cooperation with the neibouring country in all fields, and study many important files like security.
“We must restore bilateral ties as normal in order to participate effectively in Libya’s and the regional new era. The upcoming phase will see the opening of a new files and prospects between the two countries, which have large potential that must be exploited”, he added.
For his part, Ben Khayal praises the tight relationships between Algerian and Libya, which extend to a long history, explaining that the visit of Medelci to Tripoli comes to “open a new page and emphasise Algeria’s support to Libya and “discuss the issue of security and stability in the region”.
“Medelci’s visit comes to tighten political consultations and bilateral meetings that took place at several levels, which aim to discuss important files like security”, he added.
Regarding the presence of Kaddafi family in Algeria, Medelci confirms that they were received for “humanitarian reasons” adding that “Kaddafi family cannot touch a single hair of the Libyan people”.
Asked if they held talks on members of Kaddafi’s family sheltered in Algeria since last year’s revolt, Medelci said: “We discussed this matter with clarity, sincerity and transparency.”
Algeria gave shelter last August to Qaddafi’s daughter Aisha, her brother Hannibal, their mother Safiya — Qaddafi’s second wife — and the former strongman’s eldest son Mohammad.
Aisha angered her hosts in November when she called for the overthrow of Libya’s interim government.
