Kais Saïed: Algeria And Tunisia Can Make Renewed Brotherly Start
Tunisian President Kaïs Saïed on Sunday called for the exploration of “new instruments” for joint action between Algeria and his country, saying he was convinced of the two countries’ ability to instill a new beginning “capable of realizing the aspirations of their peoples”.
Speaking at the end of his meeting in Algiers with the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the visiting Tunisian Head of State stressed the need to explore “new instruments for joint action” between the two countries, declaring to this effect: “I am fully convinced that we will take off, with the same strength and the same will, to achieve the aspirations of our peoples”.
After congratulating President Tebboune on his election last December, Mr Kaïs Saïed spoke of the prospects for bilateral cooperation, adding that “we are one people sharing the same history and the same future, and I have no doubt that we will fulfill the aspirations and expectations of our peoples”.
“There have been experiences, some not successful and some relatively successful. It is therefore necessary to determine the causes,” he said.
The Tunisian president recalled the strong historical links between the two brotherly peoples, citing the tragic events of Sakiet Sidi Youssef, commemorated by the two countries on 8 February each year.
“In a few days time, we will commemorate Sakiet Sidi Youssef’s birthday, an occasion to remember this event where the blood of Algerians and Tunisians was mingled for freedom and dignity,” he said, underlining the commitment of both sides to working towards opening up “wider prospects” for the future.
President Kaïs Saïed also highlighted the convergence of the two countries’ views on the various current international issues and a perfect understanding on all the questions discussed.
The Tunisian President arrived in Algeria on Sunday morning as part of a state visit at the invitation of the President of the Republic, Mr Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
President Tebboune held talks with his Tunisian counterpart on ways and means of cooperation between the two brotherly countries and the international and regional situations, particularly in Libya and occupied Palestine.
