• The latest amendment of the Constitution requires the mobilization of all those capable of making the necessary changes to build the new Algeria, the Mediator of the Republic, Karim Younes, said in Mostaganem on Tuesday.

“The document amending the Constitution passed by a popular referendum and signed last week by the President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune, requires a mobilization on our part and a knowledge of citizens’ expectations of the changes necessary for the building of a new, coherent, strong, progress, justice and equality Algeria,” Younes said during a meeting with local authorities at the Ould Abderrahmane Kaki House of Culture.

“We must listen to the concerns of citizens, be aware of their different interests and work to bring about an effective break with the negative practices of the past,” stressed the Mediator of the Republic.

In this regard, Mr. Younes said that the mediation body of the Republic is in the process of preparing its annual report to be presented to the President of the Republic. This report includes an assessment of activities at the national and local levels where the ministries and wilayas that have played their role vis-à-vis the mediation and the others that have not responded are mentioned.

Regarding the activities of the mediation body, he cited the processing of nearly 8,000 requests and the receipt of 3,000 citizens and reports with concerns, particularly in the sectors of health, social protection, housing, employment, land and education, as well as the improvement of citizens’ living conditions, the Ombudsman added.

Karim Younes explained, during this meeting, that the local delegate of the mediation of the Republic through the wilayas “is an official appointed by decision of the President of the Republic to be a facilitator and accompanier for the benefit of citizens, enjoying good morality and good reputation and having the ability to listen and dialogue without distinction or discrimination”.
