Lakhdar Brahimi Leads A Global Initiative To Support The Palestinian Struggle
The former Foreign Minister, Lakhdar Brahimi, launched an initiative regarding the injustice and assault against the Palestinian people’s rights, dignity and land, as this initiative was prepared in the three languages, Arabic, English and French, to collect the largest possible number of signatures in preparation for delivery to the United Nations, the League of the Arab States, other regional organizations in the world, Arab and international public opinion.
The signatories of the initiative, which includes from Algeria both the former Foreign Ministers Mohamed Bedjaoui and Ramtane Lamamra, former Minister of Communication, Abdelaziz Rahabi, and former ambassadors, Nadir El-Arbaoui, who served as Algeria’s ambassador to Egypt and its permanent representative to the Arab League, and Mourad Ben Mehidi, who was the representative of Algeria in the United Nations, confirming their solidarity with Palestine and with the Arab peoples, who still consider Palestine cause their first issue, and their support for the Palestinians’ right to use all legitimate methods of resisting persecution and racial discrimination.
They affirmed the right of the Palestinian people to use all legitimate methods in their struggle against the “Israeli” campaign that continues to steal their lands and prevent them from exercising their national and civil rights.
The owners of the initiative, including former Foreign Ministers in Tunisia, Mauritania and Morocco, the former Iraqi Prime Minister, Iyad Allaoui, the Palestinian official of LCP, Hanane Ashraoui, the former UN envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salamé, the Lebanese politician Walid Joumblatt, and the former FM Egyptian, Amr Moussa, said in their message to international public opinion; “The process of stripping the Palestinian people of their rights reached a turning point when Israel moved recently to annex new Palestinian lands, based on the Trump-Netanyahu plan known as the “Deal of the Century”.
“The features of this plan are in the Zionist vision which aimed at controlling the entire land of Palestine to Theodor Herzl. It is an American-Israeli plan that challenges the principles of self-determination based on justice, as it reflects the complete American bias in support of the extreme expansionist goals of Israel, in a blatant violation of international norms and contracts of United Nations resolutions.
The owners of the initiative used the phrase “Israel” instead of “the Zionist entity” or “the occupation state”, as they affirmed their solidarity with Palestine, and the legitimate Palestinians’ right to defend their land; “We stand today in solidarity with Palestine and with the Arab peoples which still consider the issue of Palestine its first cause”.
“We support the Palestinians’ right to use all forms of legitimate methods of resisting persecution and racial discrimination, including their right to fight for boycott, divestment and imposition of sanctions on Israel”.
“These methods are peaceful struggle tools that have been successfully used by the Irish, Indians, and the peoples of South Africa in their just struggle against colonialism and tyranny. Today, these militant methods are being used by black Americans to call for a boycott of institutions that contribute to their persecution and suppression”.
“The Palestinian people have the right to use all legitimate methods in their struggle against the ongoing Israeli campaign to steal their lands and prevent them from exercising their national and civil rights”.
The initiative presented some mechanisms to confront the Zionist entity, including boycotting and imposing sanctions on it, and it was satisfied with statements of condemnation that said; “We declare that everything that the Netanyahu government and the Trump administration do in passing this scheme, which was condemned by the majority of the countries under the United Nations, will remain illegal and illegitimate”.
“Restricting reactions to faint diplomatic statements and formal denunciations will not deter Israel from persecuting the Palestinian people and confiscating their lands, because any serious steps in this field must include Arab and international material support for the Palestinian people in their struggle towards freedom and sovereignty over their land, as it should include a set of steps to boycott and impose sanctions on Israel by the international community”.
